Type: Better Ventures EIS is an alternative investment fund under the Alternative Investment Fund Manager’s Directive (“AIFMD”). It is managed by Sapphire Capital Partners LLP.

Objectives: To allow investors to aim for capital growth through investing in high risk and volatile investments. The Fund seeks to invest in Enterprise Investment Scheme (“EIS”) qualifying early-stage companies operating across a range of different sectors. The Fund will work with Vala VC Limited [https://www.valacap.com/] to provide research and Mentoring Services to investee companies. Investors’ money is spread across a portfolio of companies to help mitigate the effect of any underperforming companies.

Intended Retail Investor: The Fund is designed for private investors who understand the risks of investing in unlisted investments, typically a UK higher-rate taxpayer, over 18 years of age, normally advised by an FCA authorised adviser or a retail client that is a high net worth or sophisticated client. They may also be a professional client or an eligible counterparty. Investors should be able to lose all funds invested.

Sustainability Objective for Better Ventures EIS Better Ventures EIS is a generalist fund that invests in some of the most promising young businesses across multiple sectors that can demonstrate how they will improve their environmental and social sustainability metrics.

The Fund aims to help Investee Companies improve their sustainability thinking and promote sustainable practices regardless of the sector they operate in, and enable Investee Companies to act as catalysts for meaningful environmental and social improvements.

Vala will aim to ensure that at least 70% of the Investee Companies within the Fund will demonstrate a measurable improvement in their sustainability ambition and outcomes.

The Better Ventures EIS seeks to invest in assets that may not be sustainable now, but that can demonstrate an aim to improve their sustainability for people and/or the planet over time. Achieving meaningful change requires action from both consumers and businesses, making it essential for capital to be directly tied to sustainability outcomes.
