Information directly from fund manager.

Sustainable, Responsible &/or ESG Policy:

The fund aims to outperform (after deduction of costs) the TOPIX, as stated in sterling, by at least 1.5% per annum over rolling five-year periods.

External matrix fund description: The fund invests in unit linked collective investment funds with an active management style. Depending on underlying market conditions the fund's annualised performance will track within a range of between 1% and 5% of the Topix Index. More information on the design and management of the Matrix Range can be found in the Matrix Guide.

Underlying fund description: The fund objective is to produce above-average long-term performance through investment in Japanese equities. Baillie Gifford believes the Japanese equity market offers active managers a broad selection of high quality companies capable of delivering attractive and sustainable earnings growth for shareholders.

Over time Baillie Gifford expects this approach to generate better returns than the Japanese market. In contrast to other major markets, growth often commands little or no valuation premium in Japan, and Baillie Gifford continues to identify global leading businesses which trade on a substantial discount to their peers
