Objectives:

For index equity strategies, ESG risks and opportunities integration takes place if the index methodology considers ESG criteria in the construction of the index. UBS AM considers sustainability characteristics and risks as part of the relevant index selection process. The portfolio manager tracks the reference ESG benchmark using full replication or stratified sampling depending on the investment universe, with a focus on minimizing transaction cost while managing the tracking error within a defined range.

Sustainable, Responsible
&/or ESG Overview:

No response when requested information from fund manager

he ETF aims to replicate the performance of the MSCI China ESG Universal Low Carbon Select 5% Issuer Capped Total Return Net. As such, the approach taken in relation to the consideration of ESG criteria is the one taken by the index provider and therefore dependent on the methodology defined by a third party.

The MSCI China ESG Universal Low Carbon Select 5% Issuer Capped Index is based on the MSCI China Index, its parent index, and includes large and mid-cap securities of the Chinese equity markets. The index aims to represent the performance of an investment strategy that by re-weighting free-float market cap weights based upon certain ESG metrics seeks to increase exposure to those companies demonstrating both a robust ESG profile as well as a positive trend in improving that profile, while excluding companies based on various ESG and climate change criteria.

  • Exclude companies that are involved in the following businesses and meet the business involvement exclusion criteria as defined in the methodology book: Controversial Weapons, Conventional Weapons, Nuclear Weapons, Civilian Firearms, Tobacco, Fossil Fuel Extraction, Thermal Coal Power. Additionally, companies are required to have an MSCI ESG Controversies Score of 1 or above and an MSCI ESG Rating of ‘B’ or above to be eligible for inclusion.
  • Define an ESG re-weighting factor that reflects an assessment of both the current ESG profile (based on the current MSCI ESG Rating) as well as the trend in that profile (based on the MSCI ESG Rating Trend).
  • Re-weight securities from the free-float market cap weights of the Parent Index using combined ESG score (product of ESG Rating and ESG Rating Trend).

Please refer to the MSCI ESG Universal Low Carbon Select 5% Issuer Capped Indexes Methodology for further details on the index construction process and the exclusions.

Process:
