Climate transition finance research pilot – FCA
On 21 May 2026 the FCA published the findings of their new research ‘Financing Climate Solutions: Exploring findings from the Transition Finance Pilot’.
This research was carried out jointly with the PRA and the Green Finance Institution.
The research highlighted a number of issues in capital markets including the ability of firms to raise capital – and information and capacity gaps – pointing to some of the challenges around financing the transition to a sustainable future.
You can read the results here:
My view… I am delighted that the FCA is undertaking this work, although there is much more to do. Understanding the challenges in capital markets are an important step towards addressing them:-).
My belief is that sustainable investing is very much part of the transitioning story. Like every area it has limitations – the retail client focus makes investing in early stage companies difficult, for example – but most decent sustainable, social ethical and environmental funds are significantly invested in companies that provide climate solutions, meaning the managers and portfolio colleagues are helping these firms to grow and have better access to capital. Important cogs in the wheel.’
