‘SRI / ESG Aims and Approaches’ filter

water-sampleThis filter highlights the different ways funds deal with sustainability, ESG, responsible  investment and ethical ‘issues’. (The ‘how?’)

This is important because funds often approach issues in very different ways.

This helps to explain why different funds invest differently even though at first glance they may appear to be similar (or visa versa).

We have split this into four areas:

  • Approaches  (i.e. the way the fund positions itself / how it is set up to consider issues)
  • Impact (the fund’s approach to the ‘outcomes’ its strategy helps to deliver)
  • Options and Labels (labels, designations, listings etc)
  • Other Fund Features (other related fund specific points of interest)

To explain why this matters, for example:

  • a fund may ‘avoid coal, oil and gas majors’ as part of its ‘policy’ – but clean energy may or may not be a feature of where it invests.
  • a fund may avoid numerous areas such as tobacco, armaments and oil – but this does not mean the fund invests in larger cap or smaller cap companies.
  • a fund may not be marketed as a ‘faith’ fund, but the fund managers may be aware that it is appropriate for some such investors and therefore ‘faith friendly’.

Please note, we do not aim to imply that any particular strategy is ‘right or wrong’.   Our aim is to show that variations exist – so that investor needs can be matched to funds that suit their personal aims.

An explanation of the filter options is available when you hover over a filter option within individual fund entries.

If you are unsure of anything you should contact your financial adviser or the fund manager.
