‘A beginners guide to sustainable, responsible and ethical investment: principles and practice’
This session will aim to give newcomers to the area a basic introduction – with plenty of time to ask questions
This session will be in two parts – we will start by introducing the basics, such as purpose, aims, who and what this area is for and move on to discussing how these investments work in practice, relevant rules and what to expect.
There may be financial advisers on the panel however attendees should not interpret what is said as ‘financial advice’, as the speakers will not be aware of your personal situation.

This session will explore why it is good to talk about sustainability when seeking financial advice, what good practice looks like and some questions you might like to keep in mind when perusing websites or meeting an adviser.

The session will unpack where alignment is improving—and where frictions remain—around transparency, trust, labelling and client understanding. Attendees will gain practical insights into how each link in the chain can better collaborate to unlock scale, credibility and real-world impact in retail sustainable investing.

The premise of this session is that whilst investors cannot be held responsible for everything that happens in the world, they are none the less important – and the retail investment and advisory communities are part of this.
Building on the work of the Adviser Sustainability Group – and their report – we will be having an open discussion about the compatibility of ‘making money and doing good’ and how we can work together to meet clients’ individual needs better, whilst contributing to a brighter future.
